Biography

Kim Huynh is an academic broadcaster who helps people tell their stories and is currently working on a book about politics and ethics, centered on the experiences of carers. He was commissioned to write the Statement on Australia's Carers, which sits atop the National Carers Strategy (2024-2034), and he advises the Federal Government on its implementation. His courses in political philosophy have earned him the ANU Vice Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching. Huynh has supervised students on a variety of topics within the social sciences and humanities. His book, 'Australia's Refugee Politics in the 21st Century' (Routledge), explores enhancing national security alongside refugee rights and social cohesion. Additionally, he published a collection of stories about contemporary Vietnam entitled 'Vietnam' (ANU Press). He also co-authored 'Children in Global Conflict' (Cambridge University Press) and co-edited 'Culture Wars' (Palgrave-Macmillan). His biography of his parents, 'Sea Takes' (HarperCollins), received academic and literary acclaim. Kim actively contributes to public life as an ambassador for the Early Morning Centre and coordinates a current affairs discussion group, while also hosting ABC Radio Canberra's 'Sunday Brunch', which showcases the cultural and intellectual life of the capital region. He produced a documentary for ABC Radio National about his friendship with a rough sleeper.
