Kim Steenstrup Pedersen received his M.Sc. degree in 1999 and Ph.D. degree in 2003 in computer science from the Department of Computer Science (DIKU) at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, where he also completed his B.Sc. degree in physics. In 2001, he spent half a year at the Division of Applied Mathematics at Brown University in Rhode Island, USA. After briefly serving as an assistant research professor, he worked from 2003 to 2006 as an assistant professor at the University of Copenhagen. Since November 2009, he has held the position of Vice Head of Department Teaching at DIKU. His primary research interests lie in computer vision and image analysis, focusing on scale-space theories, natural image statistics, stochastic image models, and image features. Pedersen has contributed to many courses, primarily related to statistical methods, machine learning, and artificial intelligence, guiding projects especially in image analysis, computer vision, and machine learning. His research activities currently emphasize modeling and tracking human motion using advanced statistical models combined with machine learning techniques, as well as theoretical foundations of image descriptors in potential applications of image analysis and computer vision.
