Biography

Kimberley Trapp is a Professor of Public International Law at University College London, where she also serves as Deputy Dean and Head of Department. She has held the position of Vice-Dean (International) from 2018 to 2022. Before joining UCL in 2012, she was a lecturer at Newnham College, affiliated with the Faculty of Law at the University of Cambridge. Kimberley earned her BA in Philosophy and BCL LLB with great distinction from McGill University. She has professional experience as an attorney at Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York and Hong Kong. After a period in corporate law, Kimberley returned to academia, completing her LL.M and PhD at the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral research included clerking for Vice-President Al-Khasawneh and Judge Simma at the International Court of Justice. Her thesis, which was awarded the Cambridge Yorke Prize, formed the basis for her monograph 'State Responsibility for International Terrorism' published by Oxford University Press in 2011. Additionally, she collaborates as an academic advisor on issues concerning international humanitarian and human rights law for NGOs and government departments and has published extensively in leading academic journals. Kimberley is involved in numerous initiatives related to international law and has directed research at the Hague Academy of International Law. She serves on various editorial and advisory boards, including the Cambridge International Law Journal and McGill Journal of International Law & Legal Pluralism.
