Biography

Kimberly Kurtis is a Professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she has been on the faculty since January 1999. She is also the Associate Dean for Faculty Development Scholarship in the College of Engineering. Professor Kurtis has a distinguished record of service in advancing research in cement-based materials, leading numerous faculty development initiatives and aiding in faculty hiring strategies. She has published more than 200 technical publications and holds several patents related to multi-scale structure performance of cement-based materials. Her research is particularly recognized for utilizing innovative methods and novel approaches to gain fundamental insights into the behavior of cement pastes, mortars, and concretes, crucial for improving both early age behavior and long-term durability. She has held important leadership roles including Chairman of ACI Committee 236 and Chair of the American Ceramic Society’s Cements Division. Furthermore, she has received numerous awards for her contributions to the field, such as the ACI Walter P. Moore, Jr. Faculty Achievement Award and the ASCE Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize. Professor Kurtis is a fellow of both the American Concrete Institute and the American Ceramics Society.
