Biography

Kimberly McIltrot's contributions to nursing span clinical practice, advocacy, research, and international education. Her 35-year nursing career began in the Army, specializing in maternal-child health. She previously served as the lead nurse practitioner in pediatric surgery and wound, ostomy, and continence care at Johns Hopkins Hospital for 18 years. Dr. McIltrot is currently involved with the interdisciplinary Continence team at the Kennedy Krieger Institute. She has developed and implemented innovative practice programs that have contributed to changes both locally and internationally. An advanced pediatric surgical nursing leader, she is the founder of the American Pediatric Surgical Nurses Association and has authored numerous journal articles and textbook chapters. Dr. McIltrot is recognized internationally for her expertise in wound care, pediatrics, and pediatric surgery, having presented globally and served as an expert consultant in Malta, the Middle East, and the U.S. She also co-directed a cohort of DNP students in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is dedicated to supporting advanced practice students as an instructor, mentor, and preceptor across a variety of courses and instructional methods. She earned her DNP in 2010 from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
