Biography

Kimberly L. Mowry is the Robin Chemers Neustein Professor of Biomedicine at Brown University. She received her B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1980 and a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry from Yale University in 1988. Following her doctoral studies, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard University, where she investigated the molecular mechanisms involved in RNA localization within cells. Dr. Mowry's research focuses on the spatial localization of mRNA molecules, utilizing the Xenopus oocyte model to understand how RNA molecules are targeted to specific regions of the cytoplasm to create spatially restricted gene expression. Her notable contributions have garnered her several prestigious awards, including the Helen Hay Whitney Fellowship and the Elizabeth Leduc Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Mowry is a member of various professional organizations, including the Society for Developmental Biology and the RNA Society. She teaches courses on Cell Molecular Biology, RNA Regulation, and Scientific Communication at Brown University.
