Biography

Kimberly L. Mowry is the Robin Chemers Neustein Professor of Biomedicine at Brown University. She earned her B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1980, followed by a Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University in 1988. Mowry completed her postdoctoral training at Harvard University from 1988 to 1992. Her academic career includes positions as an Assistant Professor from 1992 to 1999 and Associate Professor from 1999 to 2005, before being promoted to Professor of Biology, where she has been engaged in groundbreaking research on mRNA localization and its implications in gene expression. Her lab utilizes the Xenopus oocyte model system to explore the mechanisms of RNA localization and the cellular machinery involved. Mowry's research has received significant funding, including NIH grants, to investigate RNA localization mechanisms, focusing particularly on Vg1 RNA. She is an active member of several scientific societies and has received multiple awards for her research and teaching contributions.
