Biography

Kiran Klaus Patel has been a Professor in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich since the winter semester of 2019/20, holding the Chair of Modern and Contemporary History. He is also the Director of Project House Europe. Previously, he held chairs at Maastricht University (2011-2019) and the European University Institute Florence (2007-2011), and was a junior professor at Humboldt University of Berlin (2002-2007). His visiting professorships and fellowships include institutions such as FU Berlin, Harvard University, the London School of Economics, the University of Oxford, and the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris. His research and teaching focus on various topics in European and American history, with a special emphasis on comparative, transnational, and global approaches. Among his selected publications are 'Tangled Transformations: Integrating Europe, Unifying Germany, 1985–1995', and 'European Integration: History and Present'. His ongoing projects include the ERC Advanced Grant In the O and coordination in DFG research groups, highlighting significant themes in European time history and policy.
