Dr. Kiridaran Kanagaretnam

Biography

Giri Kanagaretnam is a distinguished Professor of Accounting at the Schulich School of Business, York University, where he also serves as Associate Dean, Students and holds the Ron Binns Chair in Financial Reporting and Banking Governance. He joined York University in 2013, previously serving as Program Director for the Master of Management program. Prior to joining York, he held various academic positions, including Associate Dean (Academic) at the DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University, and has also taught as a visiting professor at prestigious institutions such as Nanyang Technological University and HEC Paris. Giri's research interests focus on financial institutions, bank stability, excessive risk-taking, and corporate governance, contributing significantly through over sixty published research papers in renowned journals. His dedication to academia is recognized through numerous awards, including the Schulich Research Fellowship and the Vernon Zimmerman Paper Award. His teaching spans across various graduate programs including PhD, MBA, and MAcc, where he specializes in advanced topics in financial reporting and management accounting. Giri's contributions extend to numerous research grants aimed at exploring crucial topics like fintech discrimination and climate risk.
