Biography

Kirk Essary is an Associate Professor in Medieval and Early Modern History at the University of Western Australia. He holds a PhD in Religion from Florida State University, achieved in 2014, as well as an MA in Religions of Western Antiquity and another MA in Classics from Florida State University and Texas Tech University respectively. He also earned a BA in Philosophy from Oklahoma State University in 2006. Essary has served as the Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for the History of Emotions from 2018 to 2022. His research focuses on religious intellectual history from late medieval to early modern Europe, with a special interest in Christian humanism and the reception history of classical biblical texts, particularly during the Protestant Reformation. His current work includes a monograph titled 'Renaissance Feeling: Erasmus and Emotion', set to be published with Bloomsbury in 2024. Additionally, he has extensive editorial experience and is involved in various academic activities and peer reviews across notable journals.
