Biography

Kirk Sanders is an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics at the University of Illinois. He received his PhD in Philosophy from the Joint Classics-Philosophy Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Before his appointment at Illinois, he was an assistant professor at Rutgers and a junior fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies. His research focuses largely on Hellenistic philosophy, specifically post-Aristotelian thought. He has published numerous articles and co-edited the volume 'Epicurus and the Epicurean Tradition' with Jeffrey Fish from Baylor University, published by Cambridge University Press. In addition to his extensive research in Hellenistic philosophy, Dr. Sanders is currently working on a new English translation and commentary of selected works by Xenophon, which includes the 'Apology', 'Memorabilia', 'Oeconomicus', and 'Symposium', particularly concerning Socrates' trial. He also holds additional appointments as an Associate Professor in the Department of Classics and the Department of Philosophy.
