Biography

Kirk Sanders is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Illinois. He received his PhD in Philosophy from the Joint Classics-Philosophy Program at the University of Texas at Austin. After completing his studies, he served as an assistant professor at Rutgers University and was a junior fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies. His research primarily focuses on Ancient Philosophy, particularly Hellenistic philosophy, which encompasses the philosophical traditions following Aristotle. He has authored numerous articles and co-edited a volume of essays titled 'Epicurus and the Epicurean Tradition' published by Cambridge University Press, alongside Jeffrey Fish from Baylor University. Currently, Sanders is engaged in translating and providing commentary on several of Xenophon's Socratic writings, including the 'Apology', 'Memorabilia', 'Oeconomicus', and 'Symposium', which directly relate to the trial of Socrates. He is affiliated with additional programs within the university, including the Program in Translation and Interpreting Studies.
