Biography

Kirk Surgener is the Director of Student Experience and Progression for the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) programme at the University of Warwick. He received his PhD from the University of Birmingham, where he conducted research with Professor Alex Miller on metaethical constructivism, paying particular attention to the work of Christine Korsgaard. His research interests focus on normative matters, including political, moral, and legal metaethical questions related to philosophy of language. His thesis addressed the Frege-Geach problem and the conception of moral realism, where he makes a case for analytic naturalism in ethics. Furthermore, he has developed an interest in the moral status of animals, examining how their treatment can illuminate significant ethical questions. Kirk is also involved in teaching, including a module on Feminism and an introductory course in Philosophy, and he welcomes any inquiries regarding his teaching.
