Biography

Kirsten Ainley is a feminist scholar in international relations who focuses on gender justice in conflict-affected states. She serves as a Co-Chief Investigator for the UKRI GCRF Gender, Justice Security Hub, a five-year project that overlaps with Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality and Goal 16 on peace and justice. Ainley's research also includes analysis of the impact of hybrid domestic-international criminal justice mechanisms in post-conflict transitioning states through the Hybrid Justice project. Additionally, she is involved in the ESRC Conflict, Justice and Development project, researching the links between transitional justice and development in countries like Colombia, Sri Lanka, Syria, and Uganda. Ainley’s academic qualifications include a PhD and MSc in International Relations from the London School of Economics and a BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford. Her research interests cover feminist international relations and global ethics, particularly in how these fields intersect with politics, law, and ethics at the international level.
