Biography

Kirsten Buist is an Associate Professor in the Department of Clinical Child and Family Studies at Utrecht University. In addition to her role as a lecturer, she conducts research on family systems, sibling relationships, and problem behavior. She has initiated a new study examining sibling relationships in blended families as of January 2024. Buist has written a book titled 'Broertjes & zusjes: zo stimuleer je een warme band tussen je kinderen' (Brothers & Sisters: Stimulating a Warm Bond Between Your Children) in collaboration with Sheila van Berkel. She serves as the programme coordinator for the Bachelor programme in Pedagogical Sciences and is the internationalization coordinator for the Pedagogical Sciences degree focusing on the English-language minor in Child Adolescent Relationships Development. Buist is also a member of the Faculty Council at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She studied Developmental Psychology at Leiden University and obtained her PhD at Utrecht University, focusing on the development of family relationships during adolescence and issues related to problem behavior.
