Biography

Kirsten Hodge serves as the Director of Outreach & Communications at the Pacific Museum Earth at the University of British Columbia. Her role involves overseeing the museum's engagement with the UBC community as well as local youth and teachers, focusing on creating educational opportunities related to Earth sciences. She has a solid academic background, holding a Ph.D. in Geophysics and a Master’s degree in Museum Education from UBC. Her past research includes work on experimental fluid dynamics to investigate volcanic processes and magma movement. This research aims to shed light on the dynamics occurring in magma reservoirs before eruptions and contribute to the understanding of geological processes related to the formation of continental crust and volcanic activity. Her outreach efforts also strive to interpret and communicate scientific knowledge to help the public better understand current scientific events and media coverage related to Earth sciences.
