Biography

Kirsten joined Adam Smith Business School in 2002, following her graduation from the University of Paisley with a Bachelor of Accountancy degree with Honours. She worked as a Research Assistant for fifteen months before resuming her academic career through a doctoral programme that led to a lectureship at Glasgow in 2002. In 2003, she was awarded her PhD. Her primary research interests focus on accounting business history, the structure and strategy of organizations, the evolution of managerial hierarchies, and the changes over time in management accounting practices, particularly the impact of family involvement within organizations. Kirsten's research examines a range of industries, including the retail industry and shipbuilding, aiming to provide insights into the changing nature of accounting business practices and identify failures in British business practices. She has actively participated in several specialized accounting and business history conferences across the USA, Cardiff, and Porto, and has been invited to present and chair sessions at various professional development workshops and conferences. Additionally, she serves on the Editorial Board of the Scottish Business Industrial History Journal and is a member of the Executive Committee of the Business Archives Council of Scotland. Kirsten currently reviews academic journals within the field and is a member of both the Academy of Accounting Historians and the Business Historians Association.
