Biography

Kirsten Martin is the H. John Heinz III Dean at the Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University. She holds a B.S.E. in Industrial Operations Engineering from the University of Michigan and both an MBA and Ph.D. from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. Prior to her current role, she served as the William P. Hazel B. White Professor of Technology Ethics and as a Professor of Analytics and Operations at the Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame, where she directed the Notre Dame Technology Ethics Center from 2021 to 2023. Martin has also held the Lindner-Gambal Professorship in Business Ethics at George Washington University, chairing the Strategic Management and Public Policy department. Her research focuses on ethical implications of data analytics and predictive algorithms. Martin's significant publications include her books on ethics in data analytics and responsible business practices, as well as numerous articles in leading journals such as the Journal of Business Ethics, focusing on algorithmic decision-making and stakeholder friction. Her contributions to the field have been recognized with various awards, including the Master Ethics Teacher Award at the Teaching Ethics Universities Conference in June 2019.
