Kirsty Harrington is a geochemist with a research focus on carbon dioxide removal (CDR), particularly using geochemical approaches. Her PhD research explored the transport dynamics of solutes derived from enhanced rock weathering and its application to carbon sinks. Recently, her work has investigated the potential of construction and demolition waste for CDR through a combination of field and laboratory experiments. Kirsty is currently part of the State Carbon Dioxide Removal research unit at the Smith School, where her work includes assessing deployment levels and developing a report on policy pathways to support emerging CDR methods, as well as addressing issues related to technology readiness levels, monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) challenges, and the sustainability of technology development needs.
