KJ Goh awarded a PhD from Nanyang Technological University under the guidance of Prof. Yong-gui Gao. He completed his post-doctoral work at the National University of Singapore in the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry, working with Assoc. Prof. Yunn-Hwen Gan. His research focuses on bacterial small RNAs (sRNAs) in hypervirulent Klebsiella pneumoniae, conducting studies that established virulence networks and capsule regulation. In his work, he discovered the small RNA OmrB which, when overexpressed, leads to downregulation of key virulence factors in hvKp, including enhanced capsule hypermucoviscosity. Currently, he collaborates with Prof. Trevor Lithgow to investigate the outer membrane porins of Kp, specifically the gene regulations of quiescent porins OmpK37 and OmpK38, aiming to uncover their purposes and activation modes, as well as potential roles in Kp virulence.
