KJ Sanchez is a Professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin, where he also heads the MFA Playwriting and Directing programs. He is the founder and CEO of American Records, a company dedicated to chronicling theatre as a bridge connecting people across time. KJ has directed a variety of productions including José Cruz Gonzales' 'American Mariachi' at Alley Theater in Houston and an all-Latiné adaptation of Noel Coward's 'Private Lives' for the Arizona Theatre Company. He co-adapted and directed Karen Zacarias' 'Romeo y Juliet' for Cal Shakes in Orinda, California, as well as Octavio Solis's 'Quixote Nuevo' which toured at Hartford Stage and Huntington Alley. His works have been produced at notable venues such as Berkeley Rep, Baltimore's Center Stage, and Off-Broadway at Urban Stages. KJ has also performed internationally, including at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Toga-Mura Festival in Japan. He has voiced characters in popular cartoons such as 'Dora the Explorer' and 'Go, Diego, Go!'. KJ has received multiple accolades including the 2014 Rella Lossy Playwright Award and is a Fox Fellow, also associated with the National Endowment for the Arts/TCG Career Development Program.
