Biography

Klaas-Jan Tielrooij is an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Physics at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), affiliated with the Advanced Nanomaterials Devices group. He also serves as a Senior Group Leader at the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) in Spain. Klaas-Jan leads the Ultrafast Dynamics Nanoscale Systems group, which recently transitioned part of its operations from Spain to the Netherlands in summer 2023. His research expertise encompasses ultrafast spectroscopy, terahertz photonics, optoelectronics, and layered quantum materials. His current research focuses on understanding transport dynamics in electronic and phononic systems within 1D and 2D materials using advanced optical techniques. He aims to explore applications in photodetection and thermal management while investigating quantum materials' role in energy and information conversion. Klaas-Jan has received notable accolades including the FOM Physics Thesis Prize and multiple ERC grants. He has published over 65 peer-reviewed articles and delivered around 50 invited talks.
