Biography

Klaas Mulder obtained his PhD in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry, focusing on chromatin transcription regulation at the University of Utrecht. Following his doctoral work, Mulder conducted post-doctoral research in Cambridge, UK, where he developed applied functional genomics approaches to investigate human epidermal stem cells in the context of cancer. In 2012, he started his independent laboratory, which received support from the prestigious NWO VIDI grant from the EU. In recent years, Mulder's research group has been at the forefront of innovation in single-cell genomics technologies, particularly with the development of RNA Immuno-Detection (RAID). This unique approach allows for simultaneous transcriptome-wide RNA quantification and intracellular (phospho-)protein measurements using antibody-DNA conjugates. The Mulder lab is inherently interdisciplinary, incorporating elements from molecular cell biology, bioinformatics, and chemistry, and is currently supported by grants from ZonMW and KWF. Klaas Mulder serves as a consultant and advisor and is a key opinion leader for several single-cell biotechnology companies.
