Biography

Professor Klaus Bogenberger focuses on the theory of traffic flow in urban road networks and motorways. In particular, he utilizes new data sources from vehicle data and drone data in mathematical modeling. Traffic simulations based on these models are employed to analyze the traffic effects of emerging technologies such as autonomous vehicles and new control processes. His current research centers on developing innovative traffic control methods that incorporate vehicle data to improve traffic situations for pedestrians and cyclists. He has spent years addressing procedures for analyzing the quality of traffic information. His research interests include sharing systems, new forms of local public transport, on-demand mobility, robot taxi systems, and urban cable cars. Professor Bogenberger studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich from 1991 to 1996 and served as a research assistant in the Traffic Engineering and Traffic Planning Department at TUM from 1996 to 2001. He received his doctorate in 2001 for his work on 'Adaptive Fuzzy Systems for Coordinated Traffic Responsive Ramp Metering'. From 2001 to 2008, he worked at the BMW Group in Munich as a speaker in the Science of Transport and Quality departments, and from 2008 to 2011, he was the managing partner at TRANSVER GmbH. In 2012, he was appointed full professor in Traffic Engineering at the Institute of Spatial Planning and Transportation at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich.
