Biography

Klaus Jürgen Gantzel has taught International Politics and Peace Research at the University of Hamburg since 1975. He established the research center on Wars, Armament, and Development and the working group on Causes of War Research. He retired from the University of Hamburg in 1999. His field of work at the university was Peace and Conflict Research. After retirement, he resumed his artistic pursuits (painting) and published art historical case studies on the Italian Renaissance. Gantzel graduated from the University of Cologne in economics, and later completed his doctoral studies there. He served in assistant and professorial roles across various German institutions, focusing on political science and sociology, and contributed significantly to the field of Peace and Conflict Studies through numerous research projects and publications. He has held multiple scholarly memberships and has been actively involved in academic administration and committees related to international politics and peace studies throughout his career.
