Biography

Klaus Okkenhaug is a Professor of Immunology in the Department of Pathology at the University of Cambridge. He received his BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada, and pursued a PhD in Immunology at the University of Toronto. His research has primarily focused on CD28 signaling and the role of PI3Kδ in immune responses, illustrating its significance in B cell and T cell functions. Between 1999 and 2017, Klaus led a research group at the Babraham Institute, contributing extensively to the understanding of PI3K in immunity, infection, and cancer. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has advised pharmaceutical companies in the development of PI3K inhibitors for clinical use. In addition to his research responsibilities, Klaus teaches immunology and serves as a fellow and postgraduate tutor at Magdalene College.
