Biography

Knut Andreas Meyer is an Assistant Professor in Material Computational Mechanics at Chalmers University of Technology. His research focuses on the development of computational models that are faster and more accurate than existing methods, leveraging the combination of physical laws, engineering experience, and machine learning. These innovative models enable simulations that were previously considered impossible, empowering engineers with new tools for predicting and preventing structural failures, optimizing designs, and prolonging the lifespan of components. Meyer specializes in modeling the nonlinear history-dependent mechanical behavior of engineering materials under extreme loads, which results in significant plastic deformations and ductile failures. His machine learning-based models require training data obtained from physical experiments and physics-based micromechanical simulations. He also advances finite element simulations utilizing the open-source Ferrite.jl package within the Julia programming language.
