Biography

Professor Konstantinos Gerasimidis is a leading expert in Clinical Nutrition, having graduated in Nutrition and Dietetics and completed postgraduate studies in the same field. His doctoral research at the University of Glasgow focused on the effects of exclusive enteral nutrition on gut microbiota and nutritional status in children with Crohn's disease. He also holds an honorary contract as a Clinical Paediatric Nutrition Scientist with the National Health Service Greater Glasgow Clyde. Professor Gerasimidis is actively involved in various professional communities, being a member of the Porto IBD Group and the European Society for Paediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN). He plays key roles in the Quality Care Initiative ESPGHAN, the Dietetic Working Group at the European Crohn’s Colitis Organisation, and serves as Chair of the Clinical Malnutrition Group at ESPGHAN. His primary research interests lie in disease-associated malnutrition, exploring its link to clinical outcomes across various demographics, especially in children and adults with acute and chronic diseases. He has pioneered tools for malnutrition screening and led multiple research projects funded by both governmental and charitable organizations, achieving over £14M in research funding. Currently, he oversees a team of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, conducting groundbreaking work in nutrition and gastroenterology.
