Biography

Konstantinos Kamnitsas is an Associate Professor of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, where he is a Non-Tutorial Fellow at Wolfson College. He co-directs the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Healthcare Data Science. His research primarily focuses on the application of machine learning, particularly deep neural networks, for medical image analysis. He aims to develop reliable and transparent AI models to empower healthcare professionals with intelligent tools for clinical workflows. Konstantinos completed his PhD at Imperial College London in 2019, where he pioneered the development of 3D neural networks for analyzing volumetric medical data such as MRI and CT, significantly improving generalization across heterogeneous datasets. His work has garnered several awards in international competitions for medical image segmentation. He has also worked with Microsoft Research and Kheiron Medical Technologies, and he became a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Birmingham in 2021 before moving to Oxford in 2022. Konstantinos sits on the Editorial Board of the journal Medical Image Analysis.
