Dr. Konstantinos Kamnitsas

Biography

Konstantinos Kamnitsas is an Associate Professor at the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford and a Non-Tutorial Fellow at Wolfson College. His research primarily focuses on machine learning, specifically the development of deep neural networks for medical image analysis. He aims to create reliable and transparent AI models that can be safely integrated into healthcare systems. Konstantinos completed his PhD at Imperial College London in 2019, where he pioneered the use of 3D neural networks for analyzing volumetric medical data such as MRI and CT scans. His innovative approaches have won multiple awards in international competitions for segmentation of cancer and stroke lesions. Prior to joining Oxford, he was a Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. He has worked with esteemed organizations, including Microsoft Research and Kheiron Medical Technologies, and he is currently the co-director of the EPSRC Center for Doctoral Training in Healthcare Data Science. His contributions to medical imaging involve developing tools for clinical researchers to enhance the analysis and interpretation of medical images from various modalities, including MRI, CT, and X-rays. Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of the journal Medical Image Analysis. As a leader in the field, he is dedicated to advancing machine learning methods for medical applications, ensuring their safety, and facilitating innovative research across diverse imaging modalities.
