Biography

Konstantinos Zygalakis holds a Personal Chair in Mathematics Data Science at the University of Edinburgh. He received his undergraduate training in Applied Mathematics and Physics from the National Technical University of Athens in 2005, followed by an MSc and a PhD from the University of Warwick in 2005 and 2008, respectively. He has held prestigious positions, including the David Crighton Fellowship at the University of Cambridge, and postdoctoral positions at the University of Oxford and the Swiss-Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne. Prior to joining the University of Edinburgh, Zygalakis had a permanent position at the University of Southampton from 2012 to 2016. His research interests cover a variety of areas, primarily focusing on numerical analysis, computational statistics, and applications of stochastic processes within physics, chemistry, and biology. He was awarded the Leslie Fox Prize from the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications in the UK for his outstanding work in Numerical Analysis.
