Biography

Kostas Athanasakis is a Visiting Fellow at LSE Health and an Assistant Professor in Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment at the University of West Attica in Greece. His research primarily focuses on the economic evaluation of healthcare interventions, health technology assessment, and pharmaceutical economics policy, with a particular emphasis on the economics of vaccines and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). In recent years, his research has expanded to include health system sustainability and resilience. Kostas serves as a member of the Central Board of Health in Greece and holds designated seats on the health policy economics Committee of Public Health Experts and the National Vaccinations Committee. He collaborates with the Archimedes Center for AI and Data Science, exploring the impact of AI on information asymmetries in health. Additionally, Kostas has acted as an advisor and consultant for numerous international organizations, including the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the World Bank, and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). In coordination with the LSE Health team, he also oversees the Country Report for the Partnership for Health System Sustainability and Resilience (PHSSR) in Greece, where he is a member of the PHSSR EU Advisory Group. In 2021, he became Associate Editor of the International Journal of Technology Assessment in Health Care (IJTAHC) published by Cambridge University Press.
