Kostas Kopsidas is a Senior Lecturer in the Power Systems Group within the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Manchester. He received his Higher Technological Education degree in Electrical Engineering from the Technological Educational Institute of Piraeus, Greece, in 2002, followed by a Class BEng (Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from UMIST in 2004, and an MSc with distinction in Electrical Power Engineering from the University of Manchester in 2005. He completed his PhD in 2009, focusing on methods to improve the power transfer capacity of overhead power line systems. His research interests are centered on Power System Planning and Operation Reliability, particularly in the realization of Smart Grids and increasing power transfer capacity in distribution and transmission networks. Kopsidas has published over 50 research papers and reports and is actively involved in numerous consultancy activities with industry leaders such as UKPN and National Grid. He also contributes to various advisory boards and professional bodies, including IEEE and CIGRE, and has delivered numerous CPD courses and technical seminars in the area of overhead line design and reliability assessments.
