Kostas Tsigaridis is a Research Scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research and the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies. His research focuses on the understanding of the role aerosols play in the Earth system, investigating the complex interactions and feedbacks between the atmosphere, terrestrial biosphere, ocean, and climate. He works on a variety of topics related to aerosol research, including sources, sinks, and interactions with climate at various levels of complexity. His studies cover detailed aerosol processes such as the formation of secondary organic aerosols (SOA) and the climate variability related to both natural variability and external forcings over centennial time scales. Tsigaridis has expertise in organic aerosols and has extensive experience working with different aerosol types, including tropospheric gas-phase heterogeneous chemistry. He has utilized box models as well as developed and contributed to 3-dimensional global models, including the TM3 chemistry/transport model, the IPSL general circulation model LMDz-INCA, and the GISS ModelE Earth System Model (ESM), contributing to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) AR5 model development.
