Dr. Kourosh Ebrahimi

Biography

Kourosh Ebrahimi is a lecturer at King's College London specializing in Immunology and Drug Discovery. He completed his M.Sc. in Biochemical Engineering at the Department of Chemical Engineering of TU Delft and pursued his PhD under Professor Wilfred R. Hagen in the Department of Biotechnology at the same institution, focusing on the mechanism of iron-storage in the ubiquitous protein ferritin. Ebrahimi furthered his expertise through postdoctoral studies with Professor Michael Farzan at the Scripps Research Institute in the USA and later joined the team of Professor Fraser Armstrong at the University of Oxford as an EMBO fellow. His research program emphasizes bioinorganic immunology and virology, particularly understanding the function of iron-sulfur proteins in immune responses to viral infections. Since November 2021, he has been part of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences at King's College London, where his work revolves around the role of bioinorganic cofactors, such as iron-sulfur clusters, in the immune response to viral infections, and discovering new therapeutic candidates for diseases, including cancer and viral infections, utilizing molecular and cellular biology techniques alongside high-resolution mass spectrometry.
