Biography

Krina Zondervan is a Professor of Reproductive and Genomic Epidemiology at the University of Oxford. She obtained her MSc in Biomedical Sciences with Cum Laude honors from Leiden University, Netherlands, in 1995, and completed her DPhil in 1999 at St Edmund Hall, focusing on the epidemiology of chronic pelvic pain. She co-founded the International Endometriosis Genome Consortium and has led impactful studies involving collaborative genome-wide association studies on endometriosis, aiding in the identification of DNA variants that contribute to the condition's heritability. Professor Zondervan serves as Co-Director of the Endometriosis CaRe Centre at Oxford, where she directs research efforts to develop standardized deep phenotyping tools and sample collection protocols for endometriosis research. She has received several prestigious accolades, including the Outstanding Female Scientist award from AcademiaNet (2013) and the Honorary Fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (2022). With significant funding from Wellcome Trust and other organizations, her research aims to uncover the biological pathways implicated in endometriosis and develop novel treatment strategies.
