Dr. Kris Aubrey Bassler

Biography

Kris Aubrey-Bassler is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland and the Director of the Primary Healthcare Research Unit. He completed his medical education at the University of Ottawa in 2001 and undertook his family medicine residency training at Family Medicine North. Dr. Aubrey-Bassler has additional residency training in rural advanced skills for gastrointestinal endoscopy and emergency intensive care. He also holds a Master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Western Ontario. Before joining Memorial University in 2008, he practiced full-scope rural family medicine, providing care in various settings, including emergency, obstetrics, and long-term care clinics in Marathon, Ontario. His primary research interests center on the distribution of services in rural versus urban hospitals and organizational models of primary care. He is involved in projects focused on chronic disease prevention, nutrition, and obstetrical services. Dr. Aubrey-Bassler serves as the scientific lead for the CIHR Primary Integrated Healthcare Innovations Network in the province and is a principal investigator on studies funded by several organizations including CIHR and Eastern Health.
