Biography

Krishna Garikipati obtained his PhD from Stanford University in 1996 and spent several years in post-doctoral work. He joined the University of Michigan in 2000, where he rose to the rank of Professor. From 2016 to 2022, he served as the Director of the Michigan Institute for Computational Discovery & Engineering (MICDE). In January 2024, he moved to the University of Southern California as a Professor of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering. His research focuses on scientific machine learning and computational science, with applications in biophysics, mathematical biology, materials physics, and nonlinear mechanics. Garikipati has received numerous accolades, including the DOE Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers and the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE). He is a fellow of various scientific societies and has been recognized with the Humboldt Research Fellowship. His ongoing research intersects with machine learning, particularly in areas such as system identification, physics discovery, and the development of AI models utilizing optimal transport theory-based learning and population dynamics.
