Biography

Krishna Nayak is a Dean's Professor in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and holds joint appointments in the Biomedical Engineering Department and Radiology at Keck. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 2001, along with an M.S. in 1996, and a B.S. in 1995 from Florida State University, where he studied Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics. His research focuses on developing clinically relevant magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologies, contributing significantly through innovative MRI pulse sequence designs and image reconstruction techniques. Prof. Nayak's current projects aim to enhance methods for cardiac stress testing, obstructive sleep apnea assessment, and brain tumor evaluation, all emphasizing the development of rapid quantitative MRI techniques. He collaborates extensively with specialists across various medical fields to translate and validate these technologies effectively. Nayak has received numerous accolades, including being named a Fellow of the IEEE in 2022 and receiving the USC Viterbi School of Engineering Use Inspired Research Award in 2020.
