Biography

Krista Lynes is a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies at Concordia University and holds the Canada Research Chair in Feminist Media Studies. Their academic work focuses on feminist media studies, contemporary art activism, queer theory, migration studies, and critical race studies. Lynes' research explores the role of contemporary art and infrastructures in mediating social life and contributing to political struggles, particularly concerning issues of visibility, migration, and environmental humanities. Their current research project, Greenhouse Effects: Mediation of Life, Migration, and Labor, investigates greenhouses and their implications in relation to race, class, and gender within a global context. Lynes has published widely, including co-editing the book Moving Images: Mediating Migration Crisis. They have supervised numerous graduate students in the MA and PhD programs, fostering new research in media studies, queer theory, and social justice.
