Dr. Kristan Kang

Biography

Kristan Kang joined UNSW in 2008 and has played multiple roles within the institution, particularly in the School of Clinical Medicine and the School of Psychiatry. He began as a Data Manager before ascending to manage the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) Research Bank Brain Donation Program, offering expertise in research governance, compliance, data and project management. Currently serving as a Senior Research Data Specialist with the Australian Research Data Commons, Kristan retains an honorary appointment at UNSW, providing ongoing guidance to CHeBA. He holds a PhD in cognitive neuroscience and has co-authored several scientific publications, securing funding from reputable bodies such as the Organisation for Human Brain Mapping and the National Institutes of Health in the United States. Kristan’s diverse professional background spans nuclear chemistry, cognitive health sciences, and academic teaching and research. He also has experience in crisis counselling and information technology, along with a passion for the performing arts. With a personal connection to dementia through his parents, Kristan brings both practical and academic insights into the challenges faced by caregivers.
