Dr. Kristen Lynch

Biography

Kristen W. Lynch is the Benjamin Rush Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. With degrees from Harvard University, she completed her postdoctoral studies at the University of California, San Francisco. Her research interests center around the mechanisms and consequences of alternative RNA processing, particularly in relation to the human immune response. Her lab focuses on understanding biochemical mechanisms and regulatory networks that govern RNA processing events within the human immune system. Notably, her work has identified kinase pathways that regulate RNA binding proteins (RBPs) in a signal-dependent manner. Furthermore, her research has explored the implications of splicing regulation for immune responses to viral infections and cancer. She has collaborated with researchers to demonstrate how dysregulated splicing can mimic genetic mutations found in leukemia, thereby providing potential avenues for therapeutic intervention. Her lab is also investigating various mechanisms of RNA regulation, including alternative polyadenylation and translation processes.
