Dr. Kristen Nwanyanwu

Biography

Kristen Nwanyanwu graduated with highest honors from the University of Michigan, where she earned degrees in African-American Studies and Biochemistry, laying the foundation for her career as a health disparities researcher. She obtained her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School. Board-certified as an ophthalmologist, she specializes in vitreoretinal surgery and completed her residency at the University of Michigan, followed by a fellowship at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary. Currently, she is a Principal Investigator for the NIH-funded Sight-Saving Engagement Evaluation New Haven Program, focusing on identifying and addressing health disparities in diabetic retinopathy. Nwanyanwu has lectured nationally on health disparities and access to care and is committed to providing quality care in her field. In her role at Yale, she collaborates with a diverse team of specialists to offer comprehensive care to her patients, emphasizing a compassionate and collaborative approach.
