Kristi E. Gamarel is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Behavioral Social Sciences. Her research focuses on elucidating and addressing intersectional oppression contributing to health inequities in LGBTQ+ communities, particularly through the development of community-engaged interventions designed for transgender and non-binary people of color. She is a founding member of the Love Collective, a community-academic partnership for the Trans Sistas of Color Project, which aims to meet the specific needs of transgender women of color. Presently, her intervention research addresses social determinants of health, including HIV, violence, gender affirmation, economic vulnerability, and health-harming legal needs. Her work also encompasses dissemination and implementation science in the context of HIV prevention interventions, particularly peer-delivered digital health interventions. Since 2016, she has been actively involved in the Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV Interventions (ATN), serving as Protocol Chair and currently directing the ATN Communication-Dissemination Hub, which focuses on bridging the gap between research, practice, and policy. Dr. Gamarel's scholarship is guided by community-based participatory research principles and emphasizes cultural humility in her research, teaching, and mentoring practices.
