Biography

Kristian Hahn is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Northwestern University. He earned his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 2006. His research group focuses on the analysis of data from high-energy proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva, Switzerland, specifically through the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment. Hahn's work seeks to establish the origin and characterize the properties of Dark Matter, which constitutes approximately 85% of the universe's matter content. His group searches for direct production of Dark Matter within the Run-2 phase of the LHC, which commenced in early 2016. The increased center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV allows for searches of new physics and the production of heavy mediating particles that connect Dark Matter with known particles. In addition to data analysis, Hahn is a co-convener of the LHC Dark Matter Working Group, which collaborates with theorists and experimentalists to guide systematic searches for Dark Matter at the LHC. As part of the ongoing advancements, he also serves as a co-convener of the CMS Phase-2 Track Trigger Working Group, focusing on developing hardware algorithms that enhance the detection of Dark Matter signals.
