Biography

Kristian Jessen is a Professor in the Mork Family Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at the University of Southern California. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark in 2000. His research focuses on combining modeling, simulation, and experimental work to explain and understand the fundamentals of multiphase and multicomponent flow, sorption, and mass transfer in porous materials. His work aims to advance fundamental knowledge about complex processes in the context of unconventional resources, carbon capture and storage (CCUS), and hydrogen storage in geological formations. He has a strong background in flow transport in porous media, phase behavior, and the transport properties of non-ideal mixtures, particularly concerning CO2 sequestration and subsurface geological hydrogen generation and storage.
