Dr. Kristian Petersen

Biography

Kristian Kjær-Staal Petersen is an Associate Professor at Aalborg University in the Faculty of Medicine, specializing in pain science. His research focuses on developing the concept of Personalized Mechanistic Pain Medicine, aiming to understand the phenotypes underlying chronic pain. He employs a variety of methods to study pain mechanisms and explore factors that modulate these mechanisms to tailor treatment interventions for patients suffering from chronic pain. Over the years, he has published numerous works that have contributed significantly to the understanding of pain assessment tools and biomedical engineering related to pain measurement. Petersen plays an active role in the academic community as a section editor for Pain Reports and is a member of the Danish National Committee for Health Research Ethics. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Danish Rheumatism Association Young Research Talent Prize in 2024, recognizing his contributions to the field. In addition to his research, he coordinates courses in Clinical Science and Technology and supervises students engaged in Translational Medicine. With a strong emphasis on integrating education with research, he is dedicated to enhancing academic training in pain science and advancing the understanding of pain mechanisms.
