Biography

Kristie Patten is a Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at New York University Steinhardt, where she also serves as President of the Counseling program. Following her Doctoral studies at NYU in 2007, she has taken on significant leadership roles, including Vice Dean for Academic Affairs and Chair of the Department of Occupational Therapy. Her research focuses on strength-based practices in inclusive public school settings, and she is the Principal Investigator for NYU Steinhardt's ASD Nest Program, which is New York City's largest inclusion initiative for autistic students. In addition, she co-chairs the Global Center for Inclusion’s Research Collaborative and works closely with the Moses Center and NYU's Connections program to engage neurodivergent students. Patten is currently a Co-Principal Investigator on an NSF grant aimed at mentoring autistic high school students in STEM careers. Her contributions to the field have led to her recognition as the recipient of the 2022 Eleanor Clarke Slagle Lectureship from the American Occupational Therapy Association, the profession's highest academic award.
