Kristin Black is a Gynecologic Oncologist and Assistant Professor at the University of Calgary in the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Oncology. A proud member of the Otipemisiwak Métis Nation Alberta, she has Métis Cree ancestry from her mother's side and mixed settler ancestry from her father’s side, with kinship ties to Treaty 6 territory. Kristin completed her Bachelor of Science and medical education at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Alberta and a fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Calgary. She is currently completing her Master of Public Health with a focus on Indigenous Health Studies through the University of Victoria. Her research interests include Indigenous health, patient-reported outcomes, and perioperative care for Enhanced Recovery Surgery (ERAS) in patients with gynecologic malignancies. Her work focuses on ensuring equitable access to high-quality, evidence-based surgical cancer care, optimizing patient outcomes, and minimizing patient morbidity through various initiatives including improvement of postoperative pain management and evaluation of care access patterns.
