Kristin Forbes is the Jerome Dorothy Lemelson Professor of Management and Global Economics at MIT's Sloan School of Management. She has held various senior policy positions, including serving as an external member of the Monetary Policy Committee at the Bank of England from 2014 to 2017, and as a member of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers from 2003 to 2005. Between 2001 and 2002, she was the deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Treasury Department. From 2009 to 2014, she was a member of the Governor’s Council of Economic Advisers in Massachusetts. Forbes is an Honorary Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), awarded by Queen Elizabeth II in 2019 for her services to British economic policy. Her academic research focuses on policy-related questions in international macroeconomics, monetary policy, macroprudential tools, capital flows, exchange rates, inflation, and contagion. She has received numerous teaching awards and teaches popular courses at MIT. Prior to joining MIT, Forbes worked at the World Bank and Morgan Stanley. She holds a PhD in Economics from MIT and graduated summa cum laude from Williams College.
